Quick pastel drawing:

We enjoyed a beautiful fourth of july weekend at the beach- during which we had some delicious fried green tomatoes! Before these babies got sliced, battered, and fried I grabbed one for a quick still life sketch.  I think the shadows need to be darker, but its just a study... and since theres no picture to look back at, I'm likely to let it be. This is about 8.5x11 pastel on hot press watercolor paper! Took some pictures also... May be some green tomato paintings in my future!

Greenland

Below is a 14x18 or 16x20 (can't remember) acrylic on wooden panel painting of Greenland- for my Danish sister and her new husband! I miss that family!!! I've never seen a landscape like this with my own eyes, but enjoyed the challenge of painting a landscape totally unfamiliar to me! First the photo:

Sunrise praise!

Below is the development if a 24"x36" acrylic on canvas painting commissioned by a very sweet neighbor! We worked from  colors of the fabrics in her living room and were trying to capture a peaceful meadow at sunrise. Psalm 113:3 says " From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. " the reference is inscribed above the signature per request- I love it!
We started with a berry red base:
I missed a few steps- sorry.
More detail in the foreground:
Finished:
I'll try to get a picture of it framed and hanging in the room! I'm excited with the way it turned out, and thankful for such sweet neighbors!

Color in my life!

Below you can watch the development of a 24x36 abstract for one of the best friends ever! The color scheme largely came from some bright colored fabric- we tweaked the color scheme slightly, and drew inspiration from abstract artists Harrison blackford and Michelle armas, neither if which I've had the pleasure of meeting... Perhaps one day!

Closer view:
The fabric you can see below. If you have a room you are in the process of decorating, or a space that's never felt quite finished, a painting with a custom color palette can be a great way to pull things together! Keep me in mind :)

Congratulations Courtney!

Below is an 11x14 acrylic on canvas painting of this white cross that stands in a spit if marsh on the Ashley river. Another one stands on an oyster bed in the charleston harbor- love these! A gift for my almost sister upon her completion of her DNP program!

Hillside wedding

Below is an 11x14 acrylic on canvas painting of a beautiful  field where a pretty cool cousin was married this fall! See the photograph from which it was painted at the bottom! I never paint mountain scenes- not a whole lot of mountains here in the Lowcountry I guess!

Spontaneous abstract

Yesterday I decided to do an impromptu abstract. 24x36 acrylic on wooden panel with brushes. No specific inspiration- it just sort of began taking shape as I worked! Loving some abstract these days!

Baby Caleb

Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to paint a mural for the nursery of some friends and soon to be parents. I always feel its a complement when someone trusts me to paint their WALLS!
The inspiration was the sea life bedding, and they wanted some friendly creatures, coral, etc to grace the walls of the nursery. This was such a fun project, and we can't wait to meet sweet baby Caleb!

I'm one of the 400 finalist- with work to be exhibited from April 19-27. There is a "people's choice award", for which you must be present to vote, and I'd love it if any of you are (or know someone) in or near Lake City could make it by to cast a vote! My painting "Main Street" depicting Main St. United Methodist in Dillon, SC (The church in which I was raised and married) will be exhibited at Gloria's Antiques on Main Street in Lake City.

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday! The first painting in this post I've been slow finishing, but it's one of my favorite commissions ever- I was really excited about he outcome. It is 16x20 acrylic on canvas! I've been tinkering with his one since January, just painting. Little at a time... You can see earlier stages in the previous post.

The second painting is rotated 90 degrees, sorry about that. This was done start to finish his afternoon, just because... Brian jokes that I am obsessed with pumpkins, and I know his is out of season, but I've been wanting to do this since fall! Better late than never. It is 11x14 acrylic on wooden panel. I think I have some minor tweaks to make to this, specifically in the vine and stalks. I'll post the finished product soon! Thanks for reading!!!

Oh and the last picture is Sadie doing what she loves to do best in my studio- that's look at the neighbors cat!!! See the cat?
